The revised new designs for what is known as Phase 5 of the vast Chelsea Barracks development are set to be revealed.

Qatari Diar, the global property company behind the development, announced dramatic changes to its Masterplan last April and urgently began consulting with residents and wider community groups.

The detail of the amended plans that resulted from that consultation are now ready and will be presented to the public in a series of meetings at Chelsea Barracks – beginning as early as today (10th July).

In a statement, James Dredge, a senior manager at Qatari Diar, said: ‘We are delighted to present the second phase of public consultation for Phase 5 of the Chelsea Barracks Masterplan, where we’re sharing our more developed proposals. The feedback we received during the first phase was incredibly valuable, and we’d like to thank everyone who contributed.

‘In response, we’ve refined our plans — reducing the overall number of homes proposed from 100 to around 88 high-quality apartments. This updated approach not only helps meet Westminster’s housing needs, but also enhances the design and integration of Phase 5 within the wider Chelsea Barracks site. We’re keen to hear more from local residents, and we encourage everyone to come along, learn more about the proposals, and share their views.’

Blaming a change in the residential market conditions, Qatari Diar applied to Westminster Council in April to amend the original planning consents gifted to it for Phase 5 in 2012. Instead of building 20 grand town houses with gardens – lavish properties that would have gone on the market for around £50m each – the developer announced plans to instead build three blocks of luxury flats in the northern part of the development. Qatari Diar claimed at the time that the adjustment in its grand plan would not materially change the final development.

The Chelsea Barracks development, which has been in the building mixer since 2007,  has been made up on six phases. Phases 1-3 are complete and Phase 4 is in mid-construction. Phase 5 is unlikely to start until 2027 and not finish until July 2030. Phase 6 is not expected to be completed until 2033.
