The Citizen is lobbying the Home Office to fight for the extradition of Rashid Ali, the driver who ran over and killed Jack Ryan on Battersea Bridge in 2021. Ali was sentenced at the Old Bailey last September to five years in prison for causing death by dangerous driving – but he had already fled to his homeland of Pakistan.
Ali was in Britain on a student visa at the time of the accident. Remarkably, he was given bail without being ordered to surrender his passport. In a separate development, The Citizen’s editor Rob McGibbon is pressing the Crown Prosecution Service to explain why NO bail restrictions were applied for when All was charged with an offence that would carry a custodial sentence.
