The Lost Hours pub, which closed more than a year ago and has been at the mercy of squatters for many months, is to finally re-open – as a pub. Phew.

Only this week, the new pub’s name was revealed: it will be called The Boundary. And The Citizen can reveal the reason behind this name…

The new owners of the pub are an impressive consortium of former world class cricket players. To non-cricket fans (and anyone who resides under a stone),The Boundary name is a nod to the sporting pastimes of these fledgling publicans.

The Citizen has heard that the group of players have pooled together to throw an impressive £700,000 at the venture and are enthusiastically padding up for a match-winning innings at the pumps before they even consider pulling stumps (Enuff! We are so over the cricket puns. Ed).

We can reveal that the players on the team sheet for The Boundary are England batters Jos Butler and Eoin Joseph Gerard Morgan, wicket keeper Sam Billings, Ireland all-rounder Paul Stirling, South Africa opener Graeme Smith, New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum. If these lads have any problems getting served, they can always call on another heavyweight member of their team – England rugby hooker Jamie George.

The Citizen had a sneak peak under the covers inside the pub and saw that the consortium is fielding a first class design team and builders to re-invigorate the pub. The refreshed tented garden is looking good.

The Boundary is expecting to call “Play” fully later this month, but it will have a ‘soft opening’ serving beer as from next Thursday (20th March).

The Citizen looks forward to commentating on this much-welcomed new establishment.
