Hogarth Road, the characterful side street off the ever-polluted Earl’s Court Road, has been given a major re-fit.
RBKC has ripped up the old tarmac and added granite paving for the road that is believed to be named after iconic 18th century artist William Hogarth, most widely known for his series of eight paintings A Rakes’s Progress.
Whilst the new look is certainly welcome progress for this often neglected area, it would be a shame if the council moved to gentrify Earl’s Court. Part of its appeal is in its grittiness and eclecticism.
