RBKC council is searching for a team of locals to come forward to join a new panel to “hold them to account” in light of the Grenfell tower disaster.
The hunt is on for 10-15 people who can take up places on the resident-led Independent Advisory Panel (IAP), which has been set up by the council to ensure it delivers on the commitments it made in response to the Grenfell Tower Inquiry.
Although joining the panel is voluntary, the council is prepared to discuss compensation for participants for their time and commitment. This could be in the form of vouchers, training or childcare.
The central focus of the IAP is to ensure the council delivers on the 45 commitments it made following the inquiry, which include an external review of Council culture, a review of its complaints process, and making sure that residents’ views shape improvements to services.
The Council is encouraging applications from people with lived experience or specialist expertise in areas like housing, safety and customer service. It is also keen to hear from anyone who doesn’t already have other leadership roles in the community. They want new voices to be heard.
Anyone who qualifies for a post on the panel will be expected to attend meetings every four to six weeks during the next year.
If you are interested in joining the IAP, email a short biography and an outline of your area of expertise that may chime with the panel’s ambitions, to GTI.contact@rbkc.gov.uk.
The deadline for submissions is Sunday 8th June.
